Mainstream culture presents us with the perception that a successful and beautiful individual is one who is strong, secure and sane. In response to this perception, I choose damaged and neglected subjects to photograph in order to remind myself of the beauty in decay. By displaying these “broken” subjects as visually rich and emotive, I challenge my audience to question their awareness of imperfect places and the imperfect people who once walked there.
